Gardening – Cleaning

Every hobby has a pleasant side and a not-so-pleasant side to it. Gardening is no exception to this.

Planting your favorite plants and trees, taking care of them so they can give you maximum fruits you can enjoy eating – is most definitely the pleasant side.

For me, the bad side is when these trees start to shed leaves in heaps. It is the most tedious process to clean up. Especially this year, the black plum tree has shed so many leaves! It took us (my mom, dad and I) nearly two hours to clean up these leaves.

When I have so many other trees in our garden, why I am only blaming the black plum tree? Below is the video proof of why.

It felt like “akshaya patra”. As many leaves I pick-up there were more! The leaves were never ending!  We did not let it dampen our spirits. Nor did we go for hired help to get it cleaned up. We went with the motto: “Aaduthu paaduthu pani chesthunte..” In this below time-lapse video we remained close to our south Indian attire. I would only say this: If Anand Mahindra can conduct video meetings in lungi during WFH, my dad can certainly be comfortable while performing house chores.

At the end of the day we filled up five bags of dried leaves!

And the end result!

Not only the leaves, the tree gave us quite a lot of fruits this year. Harvesting the fruits has been a challenge, though. The tree at this point is close to 45 feet and was testing us by growing fruits only on the top most branches. We managed to harvest about 50% of the fruits and left the remaining to the birds. And boy did they enjoy! How do I know this? I spot on an average 5 seeds every morning on our terrace. For those of you who are wondering, it is a large number!

I have taken inspiration from all the House/Garden makeover videos and wanted to make a video myself. This is my pilot video post and I plan to make more on Gardening.
