Minds that are not always empty

Tenet

Director: Christopher Nolan

Was it is just me or did the movie feel like a sci-fi version of HP: Prisoner of Azkaban? Maybe it is just the Harry potter fan in me.

I was skeptical when it came to watching this movie. It did receive mixed reviews globally, but many people complained they were not able to understand the film even after watching it twice.

For me, Quoting Captain Jack sparrow here: “Once was quite enough”. Not because it was bad. It was good in a onetime watch kind of way. And for the people who complained about not understanding the movie even after watching it twice: here is one piece of advice for you. It is not the makers fault for your lack of attention to detail. Movies like these are not made for you. Make peace with it. OK, it is a lot of advice. Could not help myself.

Now to people who do enjoy watching fast paced, science fiction with a touch of humor. This movie will keep you glued to your seats. Mainly because there are too many things you will have to pay attention to while watching it. And the things we observe will keep us intrigued. John David’s spontaneity with humor was the only thing light about this heavy duty action film.

I would like to mention that I am proud of Dimple Kapadia, an Indian actor, playing a key role in an English film for international audience. But she should be proud that she was successful even before she acted in this film. It is no doubt a defining moment to be acting in an English film. Just that, the actors who worked hard in regional cinema are not worth less.

Couple of scenes which I found very entertaining and thrilling were: Airstrip/plane crash scene and the car chase sequence in Estonia. Also, it got me thinking, it is movies like these, people in Hyderabad take inspiration from and drive like bats out of hell.

I would like to give the plot away! At the same time I would also like people to watch this film and form their own opinion. However, I would like to mention one thing:

At any given point in time we will have people who think they are god and take matters into their own hands to make this world a better place. What better example than the 2020 Pandemic. But what they forget is, they are not gods! At the end of the day they are just humans and cause more harm than help better the human race.

My review for this movie can never be complete without mentioning Robert Pattinson. No longer the heart throb but looks much mature than his Twilight years. The makers keep his role gray for most part of the film only to show him as a good guy after killing him in the future. OK, so just giving away some plot.

Tenet was over all a good watch with a plot that keeps you guessing and on edge. My ratings for the film: 4/5

  1. It’s only You who feels like HP Rewatch. Also the time loop in HP is flawed, atleast the time loop in Tenet has an starting and closing time loop sorted out.
